Bellflower Music has an on sight repair shop with experienced technicians that will do what they need in order to ensure your satisfaction. Having our repair shop on sight helps us to provide a timely service at an affordable rate since we are able to cut out the middle man. We work on instruments for private parties, schools, and bands so please come in and let us work on your instrument!

Band instruments can be divided into two major categories; Brasswind & Woodwind.

Brasswinds

It is vital that once a year the brass instrument be disassembled and cleaned in a solution strong enough to clean away grease and calcium deposit from the inside, but not so strong as to affect the lacquer finish. After rinsing and drying the horn it should be reassembled, lubricated with high quality slide grease, and the valves should be aligned for proper air flow. The H2o Key corks should be replaced with new ones. French horns should have their rotor strings replaced with new string. This type of service done once a year should keep your instrument working great!

Woodwinds

With Woodwinds, the first thing you should do is check the condition of the pads. If they are old, torn, or not seating correctly they should be replaced. The key heights should be checked on all keys. Also, the keys should be adjusted to work smoothly, opening and closing to operate correctly. This is called regulating the action. It is very important.The tenons, or connecting joints, should be checked to make sure that the fit is correct. The tenons should be cleaned and have grease or paraffin applied for an easy fit. All key mechanisms should be lubricated with high quality key oil. Next, play test the instrument and make any final adjustments. Lastly, clean the interior of the case and sterilize the mouthpiece. This good maintenance should leave the player very happy!
